Take Action: Support abortion access; Oppose HB 1221

Every Floridian should be able to make decisions about their pregnancy and they should be able to make medical decisions free from fear, shame, and the policing of their bodies.

HB 1221 would prohibit a doctor from offering abortion care to a patient who is seeking to end a pregnancy because of fetal diagnosis. This bill has nothing to do with protecting individuals with disabilities and their families. Rather, it exploits pregnant Floridians, as well as people with disabilities, to advance an agenda with the ultimate goal of banning all abortion. And it criminalizes physicians offering care that is safe and considered normal in all other developed nations.

Dear Legislator,

As your constituent, I’m writing in opposition to HB 1221 and any legislation that makes it harder for Floridians to access reproductive health care they need.

If enacted, HB 1221 will make it a felony for a doctor to offer abortion care to a patient who is seeking to end a pregnancy because of a fetal diagnosis. This bill has nothing to do with helping individuals with disabilities and their families. Rather, it exploits pregnant Floridians, as well as people with disabilities, to advance an agenda with the ultimate goal of banning all abortion. And it criminalizes physicians offering care that is safe and considered normal in all other developed nations.

We urge you to provide an equal playing field for Floridians with disabilities through better access to healthcare, education, housing, and other services. HB 1221 does none of this.

Please work to make sure that we are not forced to become a parent against our will or be interrogated about our decisions about pregnancy. Don't criminalize safe medical care. Oppose HB 1221.
